Turning the Tables

One of the great things about WordPress is the huge number of software extensions (called Plugins) that can add really useful, often profitable functionality to your business website. There are nearly 60,000 at the time of writing.

One of the most useful for any company needing to present searchable, possibly complex product databases online is TablePress.

As the name suggests, this plugin makes creating such tables a quick, easy and most importantly, an easily updatable doddle.

A key benefit of TablePress is that it can generate sophisticated tables from your existing database files. This might typically be a product price list or a stock list, but it can be anything you want it to be.

Let’s look at a relatively simple but powerful example we created for a military tourism website. Here the idea is to make it easy for coach tour operators to find out if their locality has twin towns connected with the Normandy campaign.

We’re not using all the possibilities here, but click on the heading ‘County’ and you’ll instantly be able to search your own county (A-Z or reversed). Likewise with towns or any other parameter.

Then try boiling it down a bit by typing a few letters in the Search box – ‘some’ for example will show you all the entries for Somerset. Or you can see if your own town or village is there by the same method.

This table doesn’t correspond with the colour scheme of this site, because it’s been custom designed to fit another organisation. We can do the same for your tables though, and ensure than any table you add thereafter will conform to the same design rules – and work perfectly on any screen.

Tables can be styled in pretty much any way you need them to be. We can add your colour scheme, images, even videos to the data, links to specific products in your shop, direct ‘order’ or ‘book now’ buttons – whatever works for your company.

Editing, updating and adding new tables is a cinch too. If you know how to create a simple (or even complex) database, or already have some you’d like to publish, then you effectively know how to use TablePress! The content can be entirely controlled via an interface you’re familiar with, then uploaded and understood by the machine.
